Eunide Innocent

Eunide Innocent

Former Minister for the Status Of Women and Women's Rights at the Haitian Government

Eunide Innocent is a former Minister for Women’s Affairs and Women’s Rights in Haiti, former Gender Advisor to the Haitian Prime Minister, former Deputy Director of the Haitian Coalition of Women Leaders (COHFEL) and the Plural Network of Women in Political Parties, Eunide Innocent is currently the Executive Director of the Platform of Haitian Women’s Organizations for Development (POFHAD). This feminist organization, which she founded in 2012 and officially recognized in May 2014, is dedicated to promoting and respecting women’s and girls’ rights.

As a feminist activist, her commitment revolves around four key points:

  • Keeping girls who are victims of early pregnancy in school and providing them with sexual education.
  • Promoting and guiding girls towards non-traditional careers.
  • Fighting against all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls.
  • Integrating women into positions of power and their participation in politics.

Holder of a Master’s degree in Organizational Management, Education, and Co-Diplomacy from Quisqueya University and Paris-Est/Créteil, Ms. Innocent has had a diverse career. She has worked as a civil servant at the Ministry of National Education, a Pedagogical Advisor at the Departmental Directorate of the West, and a Chemistry and Natural Sciences teacher. Students from high schools and private schools in the country still remember her shortcuts in chemistry and biology that helped them succeed in their Baccalaureate exams.

She has also undergone various training and seminars at Laval University in Quebec and Haiti on gender-based and sexual violence, feminist analyses, Gender-Based Analysis (GBA+), women’s political participation, and non-sexist education. Always eager for knowledge and learning, she has recently obtained several certificates through online courses in:

  • Responsible Management.
  • Gender and Development.
  • Gender Equality in Education.
  • Responsibility, Community Engagement, and Accountability.
  • Protection, Recognition, and Response to Gender-Based Violence.

As an actively engaged woman in politics, she was responsible for the National Women’s Movement of the Organization of the Struggling People (OPL). She was Deputy Coordinator of the Plural Network of Women in Political Parties (PLURIFEMMES) and the Haitian Coalition of Women Leaders (COHFEL). One manifestation of her political commitment was her candidacy for the Senate in the West department in 2005 and for the Mayor of Port-au-Prince in 2015.

She contributed to integrating gender into the Education For All Implementation Plan (PMO/EPT) in 2007 and the State Modernization Program 2023 (PME-2023) in 2018.

Her leadership has earned her several decorations both within and outside the country. She is an honorary member of the Global Movement of Pan-African Women Leaders (MMFLP), for which she has received a humanitarian award.
